Sound familiar?

You're not failing. You're running hot.

Most people who reach out about stress are good at their jobs. That's part of the problem. They're the one everyone calls, so the pressure builds quietly: the Sunday-night dread, the inbox at 11 p.m., the drive home on the Tollway replaying a meeting that ended hours ago. A short fuse with the people they care about. Wired at night, flat in the morning.

Burnout usually isn't one bad week. It's the same few reactions repeating every day until they feel like who you are. Pressure follows a pattern, and patterns can be mapped and changed.

First, the line

Stress, or something that needs a clinician?

The National Institute of Mental Health draws a useful line. Stress is usually a response to an outside cause, like a deadline or a conflict, and it eases once the situation does. Anxiety tends to persist even when there's no immediate threat. (NIMH, "I'm So Stressed Out!")

This page is about the first kind: stress tied to specific, high-stakes moments that you want to handle differently.

Start with a doctor or licensed clinician if you have:

  • Panic attacks, or anxiety that's there most of the time
  • Persistent low mood, or depression
  • Trauma symptoms or substance dependence
  • Physical symptoms a doctor hasn't checked

In crisis or thinking about hurting yourself? Call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, any time.

If you're already in care, hypnotherapy can sometimes sit alongside it, with your provider in the loop.

How the work runs

Not "stress in general." Your stress, specifically.

Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state in which it's easier to rehearse a new response. You stay aware and in control the whole time. Inside the 8-week program, stress work usually follows four moves:

01Find the moment

Not "work is stressful," but the exact trigger: the 7 a.m. email, the investor question you dread, the second loss of the day.

02Map the sequence

What you notice first, the story that follows, what your body does and what you do next.

03Rehearse a new response

In hypnosis, you walk through the moment and practice responding the way you do on your best day.

04Reinforce it

Short audio and simple drills between sessions, so the change holds up outside the chair.

This is the core idea behind Identity 2.0: change sticks when it's built into how you see yourself. "I'm someone who stays steady when the room heats up" behaves differently from someone white-knuckling a breathing exercise.

Goals clients bring

What people want to change

You set the goals. Common ones from Dallas clients:

  • Leaving work at work, instead of replaying it all evening
  • Responding instead of reacting in tense meetings
  • Recovering faster after a bad day, a bad trade or a bad round
  • Making decisions without second-guessing them for days
  • Being present at home, not half on the phone

Who this tends to fit

Built for people under pressure

Most clients are executives, founders, traders and athletes, but you don't need a title. If your stress shows up in specific moments and you're ready to work on it, the free call will tell you whether this fits.

Stress FAQ

Questions about stress hypnotherapy

Is stress hypnotherapy the same as therapy?

No. Jay Shaw is a certified hypnotherapist (CHt), not a psychologist, counselor or medical provider. He doesn't diagnose or treat anxiety, depression or any medical condition. The work is hypnotherapy and performance coaching for stress tied to specific situations you want to handle differently.

I think I'm burned out. Should I see a doctor first?

If you're exhausted most days, sleeping badly, losing interest in things you used to enjoy or noticing physical symptoms, start with your doctor or a licensed mental-health professional. Burnout can overlap with depression and medical issues that deserve a proper check. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.

Can I do this while I'm seeing a therapist?

Often, yes. Hypnotherapy can sit alongside therapy, but talk with your therapist first and keep them in the loop. Jay will ask about this on the free call.

Will I be asleep or lose control?

No. Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state. You stay aware the whole time, you can talk, and you can stop whenever you want. Nothing is done to you.

Do sessions happen in Dallas or online?

Both. Sessions are at our Oak Lawn office (3838 Oak Lawn Ave, Suite 1000, Dallas, TX 75219) or on Zoom. Yes. Park in the free retail parking on the surface level, take the elevator to the 10th floor and look for Suite 1000.

What does it cost? Can I use HSA or FSA?

The 30-minute strategy call on Zoom is free. The optional Identity Diagnostic is $99 and is credited toward the program. The full program is a premium, 8-week commitment. We'll walk through options on your free strategy call. Payment plans are available. Identity 2.0 can't take HSA or FSA payments.
