Performance anxiety · Public speaking · Dallas or Zoom

Performance anxiety and public speaking hypnosis in Dallas.

You know the material. The problem is what your body does when the room goes quiet.

Work 1:1 with Jay Shaw, a certified hypnotherapist (CHt), at our Oak Lawn office or on Zoom. We map what happens in the seconds before you speak, play or execute, and rehearse a steadier response until it shows up when it counts.

Free · 30 minutes · Zoom · No obligation. The $99 diagnostic is optional and credited toward the program.

What it looks like

Prepared, capable, and still shaking.

Your heart pounds while you wait to be introduced. Your voice goes thin on the first slide. The Q&A starts and your mind goes blank on something you know cold. Or it isn't a stage at all: the first tee with people watching, the free throw with the game on it, the trade you planned that your hand won't take.

Some people quietly work around it. They let someone else present, skip the panel, pass on the promotion that comes with more speaking. From the outside it looks like a preference. From the inside it's a pattern, and patterns can be mapped and changed.

Why "just relax" fails

The reaction runs faster than your plan.

By the time you tell yourself to calm down, your body has already decided the moment is a threat. More preparation doesn't fix that, because preparation isn't the problem. The response underneath it is.

Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state in which it's easier to rehearse a different response. You stay aware the whole time. Nothing is done to you; you practice, with guidance, until the steadier version of you feels familiar instead of forced.

  • 1. Map the momentThe exact trigger: the walk to the podium, the first question, the first tee. What you notice first and what your body does next.
  • 2. Rehearse it in hypnosisYou walk through the moment in detail and practice the response you want, again and again, where the stakes are low.
  • 3. Build a cueA short, physical cue you can use in the real moment to come back to that response.
  • 4. Practice between sessionsReinforcement audio and a 10-minute self-hypnosis routine for the minutes before you go on.

Optional add-on

Identity Under Pressure: see your pattern move.

For anyone who wants something measurable to practice with, Jay offers Identity Under Pressure, a heart-rhythm biofeedback add-on to the 8-week program, available to any client, whether you speak, compete or trade. A small ear sensor shows your own heart-rhythm pattern on a screen while you recall the moment that gets you, use your cue, and see how fast you settle.

Jay is a HeartMath Certified Practitioner. It's a training and feedback tool, not medical treatment, and it's covered on the free call if it's relevant to you.

Nerves, or something more?

Jay is a certified hypnotherapist (CHt), not a psychologist, counselor or medical provider. If anxiety shows up most days, includes panic attacks, or keeps you from work or daily life, start with your doctor or a licensed clinician. Hypnotherapy can sometimes sit alongside that care, with your provider in the loop.

Performance anxiety FAQ

Questions about performance anxiety hypnosis

Is performance anxiety the same as an anxiety disorder?

Not necessarily. Nerves before a talk, an audition or a big game are common. If anxiety shows up most days, includes panic attacks or keeps you from daily life, see a doctor or licensed clinician first. Jay is a certified hypnotherapist (CHt), not a psychologist, counselor or medical provider, and doesn't diagnose or treat anxiety conditions.

I have a big presentation coming up. Is there time?

Book the free strategy call and tell Jay the date. He'll be honest about what's realistic before it. In the meantime, the 10-minute self-hypnosis routine is something you can practice tonight.

Will hypnosis make me forget my material or act strangely?

No. Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state. You stay aware and in control the whole time, and you can stop whenever you want. The goal is for your preparation to show up, not to change what you know.

Does this work for athletes and traders too?

The same pattern work applies. See sports hypnosis for athletes and golfers, and day trader hypnosis for execution under pressure.

Do sessions happen in Dallas or online?

Both. Sessions are at our Oak Lawn office (3838 Oak Lawn Ave, Suite 1000, Dallas, TX 75219) or on Zoom. Yes. Park in the free retail parking on the surface level, take the elevator to the 10th floor and look for Suite 1000.

What does it cost? Can I use HSA or FSA?

The 30-minute strategy call on Zoom is free. The optional Identity Diagnostic is $99 and is credited toward the program. The full program is a premium, 8-week commitment. We'll walk through options on your free strategy call. Payment plans are available. Identity 2.0 can't take HSA or FSA payments.
